On Saturday 20 October 2018  I will be pushing myself to the physical limit (because who doesn’t love a challenge), along with five other Gungahlin Rural Fire Service members, will be climbing Sydney Tower Eye with hundreds of other firefighters in full structural firefighting ensemble to raise money and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Bit of info: Teams of firefighters will climb all 1504 stairs (98 floors) of the Sydney Tower Eye, each carrying an additional 20kg of gear (Uurrrggghhh). It will be a grueling challenge, however it is nothing in comparison to the challenge patients with MND face every day.

About MND: MND is Motor Neurone Disease, or ALS, or Lou Gehrigs Disease – Anyone can get MND as it strikes indiscriminately, at any time with no proven explanation. MND is a progressive, terminal neurological disease which affects the nerve cells (neurones) controlling the muscles that enable us to move, speak, breathe and swallow, causing their bodies to degenerate while the person’s senses and intellect is not affected.

Every dollar raised will directly support vital MND research at the Macquarie University MND Research Centre.
